80th Independence Day Celebration at Loyola Group of Educational Institutions, Manvi

The 80th Independence Day was celebrated with great patriotism and enthusiasm at Loyola Group of Educational Institutions, Manvi. The programme was organised on a common platform by the various educational units of the institution, with the active participation of students, teachers and staff.

The programme began with the hoisting of the National Flag. This was followed by the singing of “Vande Mataram” by the students. Several student groups and the NCC team presented a spectacular and disciplined march-past. Students delivered speeches highlighting the importance of Independence Day, the sacrifices of freedom fighters, and the role of youth in the development of the nation. Floral tributes were offered to the portraits of the freedom fighters as a mark of respect.

The Chief Guest, Dr. T. Roni, Chief Planning Officer of Raichur Zilla Panchayat, addressed the gathering. He said, “The true expression of patriotism is for every Indian to perform his or her duty honestly and sincerely.” He emphasised that the country can progress only when every citizen performs his or her responsibilities sincerely, irrespective of the field in which one works.

He recalled the sacrifices of great freedom fighters such as Mahatma Gandhi, Subhas Chandra Bose, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Sangolli Rayanna and Kittur Rani Chennamma, who dedicated their lives to the struggle for India's independence. He stated that the freedom we enjoy today is the result of their sacrifices and struggles, and that the responsibility of building a new India rests on the present generation.

He further said that respecting the Constitution, obeying the laws, and ensuring that every person has the opportunity to live with dignity are the duties of every citizen. India has made considerable progress in the fields of agriculture, science and technology. However, he pointed out that development does not mean merely economic progress; true development is inclusive development in which everyone in society receives equal opportunities.

Dr. T. Roni also called upon the institution to recognise the talents of students and provide them with suitable opportunities to develop those talents. He encouraged students to become responsible and capable leaders and contribute meaningfully to the development of the nation.

The programme was presided over by Fr. Cyril Raj, Director of Loyola School. Addressing the students, he said that freedom is a precious legacy inherited through the sacrifices of our ancestors and that it is our responsibility to honour it and carry it forward to future generations.

He emphasised that education is not merely for securing employment; it is a powerful means of developing knowledge, critical thinking, self-confidence and responsible citizenship.

He encouraged students to develop the spirit of giving back to society what they have received from it. He urged them to serve the poor, the vulnerable and those in need and thereby contribute to the nation.

He reminded the students of the message: “Freedom is Heritage, Education makes us Free, Service is a Promise, Liberate India, Serve India.” He encouraged them to shape the future of the country through knowledge, values and a spirit of service. He further stressed the message “Liberate India, Serve India,” urging students to contribute to the nation through knowledge, values and selfless service.

The programme was graced by distinguished guests including Fr. Wilson Bennis, Principal of Xavier School; Sr. Juliet Montero, Headmistress of Loyola School; Fr. Vinod Paul, Director of Loyola Degree College; and Srimathi Shruthi Khasi, Principal of the Pre-University College.

The celebration, which conveyed the message of patriotism, education, service and responsible citizenship, was conducted meaningfully and concluded successfully.
